Altrincham Girls Consults on 2028 Admissions Priority
An active consultation proposes feeder-school priority at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls. Read the dates, affected entry year and how to respond.
Families considering Altrincham Grammar School for Girls for September 2028 entry can respond to an admissions consultation running from 19 October to 14 December 2026. The school’s consultation notice identifies a proposed feeder-school oversubscription criterion. This is an opportunity to comment on a proposal; it is not a notification that the policy has already changed.
For families preparing for exams taken in 2027: the affected entry year is September 2028. The school’s separate 2028 admissions page confirms a September 2027 entrance test. No exact test day is confirmed in this report.
What would the proposal do?
The Bright Futures consultation document proposes placing a new feeder-school category after sibling priority and before distance priority when eligible applications exceed available places. Applicants would still need to meet the academic standard. The Trust says the admission number would not change.
The designated primaries in the proposal are Acre Hall Primary School, Barton Clough Primary School, Elmridge Primary School and Lime Tree Primary Academy. The full draft includes attendance conditions, so the list alone is not enough to determine whether an individual applicant would qualify.
Why this is being discussed now
Altrincham Today reported on 23 October that local MP Connor Rand had raised concerns about the proposal’s effect on nearby families. That is an attributed response, not evidence that a particular child will lose a place. The consultation remains open.
How to make a useful response
Our suggestion is to read the actual proposed criterion before responding. Keep three questions separate: whether a child meets the test standard, whether a priority category applies, and how places are ranked when there are too many eligible applicants. A proposal about the second question should not be read as abolishing the first.
- 1Open the Trust’s consultation page linked above and compare the draft with the arrangements for the correct entry year.
- 2Describe your own circumstances and the specific effect you think the proposed priority could have. Avoid presenting hypothetical outcomes as established facts.
- 3Use the response options on the Trust’s page before the stated closing date. Ask the Trust for clarification where the draft’s attendance-date wording is unclear.
There is a wording point worth checking directly: the summary refers to the applications closing date, while the proposed criterion also refers to remaining on the register at the end of February. We have not assumed which wording would govern a final policy. Do not move schools or make an application decision on the basis of our summary.
Use our Altrincham Girls school guide for context and the exam dates and admissions hub for related coverage. Official documents for the relevant cohort take precedence over any older calendar entry. This report covers the live consultation, not a full audit of the school’s admissions information.
Sources checked 24 October 2026: the school’s consultation and 2028-entry pages, the Bright Futures consultation document, and the dated local report, all linked above. We will need the Trust’s determination before describing any proposed priority as a confirmed rule.
